McMaster Children’s Hospital (MCH) has been providing care to children from across the region since 1988. Here, patients ranging in age from infancy to 17 receive specialized pediatric health care through a family-centred approach that accounts for the child’s emotional, mental and physical well-being. The hospital is home to the fastest-growing kids-only emergency department in Ontario, one of Canada’s most advanced neonatal intensive care units, and a range of programs and clinics with unique expertise in a number of areas including children’s cancer, digestive diseases, and mental health. Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre (RJCHC), a site of McMaster Children’s Hospital, is home to a range of outpatient services focused on child rehabilitation and developmental health. It also hosts Canada’s largest prosthetics and orthotics program, which serves both children and adults across the country. Over the last year, thanks to provincial investments, MCH has focused on addressing challenges faced across the pediatric health care sector. By growing services, spaces and staff, the hospital has been able to address wait times for children and youth to ensure they receive care within reasonable and recommended timeframes. Growing MCH is enhancing care and hospital efficiency by supporting innovative approaches to existing and new programs. MCH and RJCHC are expanding and updating spaces to accommodate more surgeries, more advanced treatments, and better recovery.
