Dr. Joshua Smalley, MSc (MHPE), MD, FRCPC
Dr. Joshua Smalley serves as the Medical Director of Acute Care Inpatient Psychiatry at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). In his role, he co-leads the Acute Care Inpatient Unit, the Mental Health Transition Unit, and the Supporting Transitions Hospital After Care program. Additionally, he contributes his expertise as a consultant with the Gender Diversity Team.
Dr. Smalley's professional interests are centered on quality improvement and interprofessional education. His dedication to these fields is supported by his robust background in health professions education. He earned his Masters of Health Professions Education (MHPE) from Maastricht University, where his research focused on workplace-based learning and assessment.
Dr. Smalley completed his subspecialty training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, as well as his General Psychiatry Training, at Dalhousie University. He earned his medical degree from the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University. Through his diverse roles and extensive training, Dr. Smalley is committed to enhancing the quality of mental health care and education for healthcare professionals.
