RN Coordinator
The Hospital for Sick Children, Canada
Tharini Paramananthan graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2007. She began her career at SickKids as a Registered Nurse on an inpatient cardiology unit, collaborating with an interdisciplinary care team to provide comprehensive care to children diagnosed with Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) pre- and post-operatively. Her passion for working with children and families flourished during this time.
Tharini later pursued a Master’s in Nursing, seeking opportunities to advance her career in education and research. Currently, she is a nurse coordinator in the Surgical Community Partnerships (SCP) Program at SickKids, which aims to address the growing surgical waitlist by decentralizing pediatric surgical care. This innovative program transfers long-waiting, low-acuity patients from SickKids' waitlists to community hospitals for timely surgical interventions.
In her role, Tharini assists in streamlining clinical operations by developing effective pathways for case referrals between SickKids and partner facilities, ensuring suitable cases are identified, triaged, and transferred efficiently.
