Crystal Edwards is a well-respected leader who is passionate about improving access and equity to quality care for children, youth and families in Northwestern Ontario. She has long been an advocate for change having made many advancements in maternal child and paediatric care at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC), including obtaining funding for several program expansions. She successfully expanded the services of her child and adolescent mental health, enhanced child life specialty services at TBRHSC, established a regional paediatric support program for the north and is in the process of establishing a Paediatric Emergency Transport Team for northwestern Ontario. Crystal was a strong advocate for the Northern Maternal Child Network and has worked alongside other leaders in its successful formation.
Crystal is a Lakehead University graduate, having received two Bachelor of Science Degrees in Biology and Nursing and she holds a Master of Nursing Degree from the University of Toronto. Crystal is a member of the Canadian College of Healthcare Leaders as well as the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario.
Crystal started her career in healthcare as a Registered Nurse working in Critical Care while also working as an Organ & Tissue Donation Coordinator for Trillium Gift of Life and providing clinical oversight to nursing students at Lakehead University. Crystal has held multiple leadership roles at TBRHSC, including Clinical Nurse Specialist, Surgical Services; Clinical Manager, Surgical inpatient and Endoscopy and she is currently working as the Director of the Women & Children’s and Mental Health Programs at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Crystal actively participates on a number of Provincial Council for Maternal Child Health and Critical Care Services Ontario committees, as well numerous community and regional committees and tables and is on the Board of Directors for Children's Healthcare Canada and Children's Centre Thunder Bay.
