Patient/Public/Family Partner

Amanda Doherty-Kirby is an avid patient/public partner who was introduced to patient oriented research through a connection with a parent in an online peer support group. She completed the CanChild/Kid’s Brain Health Network (KBHN)/McMaster University Family Engagement in Research course in the fall of 2020 and was recently recognized with one of two Outstanding KBHN Leadership Awards for Family Engagement in Research for 2023-2024. Trained as a biochemist, Amanda has primarily been a full time caregiver for almost twenty years due to the needs of her six children, with five having multiple medical diagnoses. Amanda’s interests include the experiences of children/youth with disabilities and their families, migraine, monogenic diabetes, authentic partnership with patients and families, knowledge translation, health data, equitable education, and more. She is passionate about facilitating connections for those with lived experience, particularly youth. She is the administrator for the Youth Engagement in Research (@youth_in_research) account on Instagram as well as the main administrator for a large MODY (Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young) Facebook group.
