Dr. Leigh Anne Allwood Newhook MD, MSc, FRCPC is a Pediatrician and Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University. Dr. Newhook’s clinical work includes general pediatrics and since 2019 she has been a pediatrician for the Children and Youth in Alternate Care (CAYAC) clinic. Dr. Newhook’s research has focused on topics such as infant feeding and nutrition, Type 1 diabetes, health needs of children and youth in alternate care, and pediatric mental health which has advanced local and provincial health care and services for families in Newfoundland and Labrador. She is a co-chair of the Baby-Friendly NL breastfeeding research working group. She has over 50 scientific publications and has mentored and supervised many research trainees at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels.
