Carol Fortnum, MA, B.Ed., OCT is an Educational Liaison wtih Children's Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC). Throughout her career as an educator, Carol was honoured to learn from elders and community members in several First Nations across Ontario. She is thrilled to be able to support Nicole Yawney launch the first annual Youth Indigenous Career Fair which brought together Indigenous youth, educators, and health care professionals from all areas of the LHSC. The Career Fair is one step toward working together to fulfill some of the Truth and Reconcilation Commissions' Calls to Action. As an Educational Liasion with the Office of Transitions in Care, Carol supports collaboration amongst clinicians, community organizations, and educators to provide seamless care for patients and their families. As a parent with lived experience, Carol understands how school can be a source of worry or distress for kids while receiving life-saving care in a hospital. As an educator with 30 years experience in the K-12 sector, Carol is able to support patients and their caregivers to advocate for their needs and navigate the healthcare and educational systems. Carol continues to advocate for children and youth, and their caregivers, by sitting as a member on the Special Education Advisory Committee on the Thames Valley District School Board, as well as the Thames Valley Education Foundation.
